For the next 5-7 days, keep your pet indoors in a quiet dry warm place.
Your pet has received an injection of pain medication. Do NOT give any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) that is not specifically prescribed by a veterinarian to your pet. Any take home pain medications sent home from The Snip Station should be started the day after surgery.
Male animals can still produce viable sperm that can impregnate unspayed females for up to the next 4 weeks. They should be kept away from any unspayed female to ensure unwanted offspring are produced.
All female animals should be kept away from unneutered males for up to 2 weeks to prevent injury from attempted breeding.
Feeding: You may offer 1⁄4 to 1⁄2 of their normal diet tonight and a small amount of water. If your pet is still groggy, withhold food and water until tomorrow. Your pet may choose not to eat; this is normal because they may have nausea due to the anesthesia. The appetite should return to normal in no longer than 2 days. DO NOT change your pet’s diet or offer table scraps, milk, etc. or it will cause stomach upset.
Monitor the incision area: Please check the incision area twice a day. Mild redness and swelling can be part of the healing process. You can apply a cool compress to the site to ease the swelling. Excessive swelling, bruising, bleeding, or other drainage is not normal. Please call The Snip Station and leave a voicemail if no one answers. We monitor voicemail on a regular basis. An open incision or excessive bleeding is considered an emergency. You should seek immediate medical attention. Your pet’s incision is held together with tissue glue that will dissolve on its own. Do not bathe your animal or put anything (including Neosporin on the incision).
E-Collars: E-collars are recommended but not required. The Snip Station has them available for purchase or you may purchase from a local pet supply store.
Behavior: Extreme depression/lethargy or unresponsiveness by your pet is considered an emergency. Please seek immediate medical attention.
The Snip Station cannot be held responsible for complications resulting from failure to follow post op care instructions or for contagious diseases for when the animal was not previously properly vaccinated.
